St. Anne opens renovated unit
The century-old nazareth hall at St. Anne Institute has re-opened after a $500,000 renovation. The overhaul created a new 12-bed intensive care unit to meet the extreme needs of teenage girls who are considered a danger to themselves and others.
The girls who live on the specially designed unit today are often victims of abuse, who struggle with severe psychological problems, including depression and, self abuse. It is designed as self-contained, with 12 single rooms, two classrooms, a kitchen, dining room, and recreation area.
The renovated facility represents the shifting demands of the program, which provides residential services, education and specialized care for troubled girls between the ages of 12 and 18 from 46 counties across the state.
Attending the open house that was held in November is (L-R) Erica Gray, Unit Manager; Albany Mayor Jennings, ;Marybeth Musco, Director of Residential Services and Richard C. Riccio, former Executive Director.
(seen below) Assistant Executive Director of Support Services and Dick Zandri, Zandri Construction Corp. managed the renovation project.
